For one week a year the campus votes to be somewhere else, and mostly it works: Mexican sombreros, Turkish coin headdresses, Indian flags, a dabke line, henna, and a papier-mâché globe strung with bunting.
The recurring subject is hands in contact with people, paint on a cheek, henna drawn onto a stranger's wrist, a fan raised, a dance grip. And when the festival refuses to hold still, the camera stops fighting it: drop the shutter to a quarter second and the crowd turns to smoke while the globe stays exactly where it is.

Sombrero mid-scream, a fez thrown back, a henna artist bent in total absorption over a stranger's arm. Hands in contact with people, everywhere you look.
