ساوند ستورم SOUNDSTORM Visual essay for the three-day music festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Banban, Riyadh, December 2025

Every December, a city of shipping containers rises from the sand on the outskirts of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Since its debut in 2019, MDLBeast's Soundstorm has grown from a statement of intent into the Middle East's largest music festival. This is Riyadh's three-day, ten-stage, 700,000-person proof that it belongs on the global festival map.

Born under the umbrella of Saudi Vision 2030, Soundstorm has become one of the kingdom's most visible cultural exports: a place where Eminem, Muse, Linkin Park, and David Guetta share billing with regional acts.

This photography project is not about the headliners. It's about everything else. It focuses on what Soundstorm feels like when you stop watching the stage and start watching everything around it.

Chapter 01 soundtrack
In the Fog II, Tim Hecker
Ambient drone, foggy, dissolving

Bathed in Light

Before the music, there's the light. Haze catches laser, neon bleeds into fog, and for a moment the festival becomes pure atmosphere, no performer, no crowd, just color suspended in air.

Vibrating Spaces

A thousand shipping containers stacked into stages, murals, and storefronts. Soundstorm builds itself a temporary city each year, and these are its streets, humming with bass you feel before you hear.

Chromatic Crowd

Balenciaga caps and sweater vests. LED glasses and red berets. Every face here arrived as someone and left as someone else, this is what a festival looks like when 700,000 people decide to be exactly who they want to be.

Alone Together

In the middle of the largest crowd in the region, two people lean into each other. A hand reaches for a shoulder. A couple matches outfits without saying a word. The loudest festival in the Middle East, and these are its quietest moments.
